Getting ready for Windows Live Wave 4

Over the last few months, we’ve focused this blog on our current software and services – how we build them and how they're used around the world. We’ve also talked about trends we’ve observed both in the use of our services and in our research with customers. Today marks the point where we shift the focus of our blog from our current services to our next major release – known internally as “Wave 4.”
For several months now, we’ve had several thousand people running regular builds of this code inside Microsoft, and we’ll shortly begin expanding this testing to some folks outside Microsoft for additional feedback.

The main focus will on the new updated movie maker and Live photo gallery which won't be compatible with XP while Mail and Messenger will still be available for older version.

"We just decided that was the right choice," Microsoft Vice President Chris Jones said in an interview this week. Jones said existing versions of the programs will continue to be supported for XP users and online services like Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger will continue to run on Windows XP.

That's a small part of that one seen there.

The article was likely based on an MS press release. This is where of them get their information unless having interviewed someone. ZD Net has their own blog on this seen at Microsoft: Windows Live Wave 4 test bits due in 'the coming weeks' | All about Microsoft | ZDNet.com

Here's one point of interest seen in that one to take note of.

“Our (Windows Live Wave 4) services are not meant to try to get you to switch to something new,” he said. People already have more than enough e-mail clients, social networks, event-planning sites and photo-sharing centers.

“Don’t expect to see new or more (Windows Live) services from us,” Jones said. “Expect us to do more things like adding more sharing options to e-mail.” And with the new Windows Live Essentials, “we’ll make it easier to connect with what you already use,” he added.

The thing is I've been hearing about the Live Wave 4 beta since last fall. First some pages were saying it due to be out a week from the September date mentioned in one article, Rumor: Windows Live Wave 4 beta this week

And then others pointed at early 2010. The way the title on that one there starts seems to sum things up quite a bit however. "Rumor" as in "Rumor Mill"! The MS Blog site is generally the best indicator for when something will actually be out.
