Getting rid of "Get the New Office" banner

All,

I'm using Office 2013 (not sure why, but my shortcuts all point to MicrosoftOffice15 directory). Through office 365. Microsoft is pushing an upgrade, and they're doing so with a banner inserted at the top of every MS office app when you open it. You have to kill the banner every time you start any app.

Upgrading is not an option, as I interface with people outside of academe often, and work on journal articles and such and I want to ensure compatability. Also, I don't see any need to fix something that is not broken. After the initial Vista release, and the extremely poor and incomplete releases of Office around the same time, I don't trust Microsoft and never will. Still torqued about them releasing Office with incomplete VBA capability.

So I won't upgrade for a while. I understand that some folks have spoken to MS tech support and have been told that there's no way to deal with the banner except to upgrade. ("Microsoft to Users: Drop Dead!"). I'm hoping that someone has figured out a way to permanently delete these banners. Or at least have a "Not now: remind me in a month" option.

MS doesn't seem to realize that every "upgrade" is an imposition on the user. An upgrade steals time from me. Some of the MS upgrades have featured loss of capabilities that I use. From their viewpoint its "Golly, you get all these cool new and upgraded features". From my standpoint it's "C**p! I have to learn a new user interface. And they removed recording for some VBA features I need!" Oh well, [/rant].

Anyone know how to suppress these unwanted banners that only serve to anger users?
