Hi

I'm having weird stupid issue with windows 7 , shiledwizard freezes and can't do system restore , install is a week old , anyway I quick format HDD , installed new windows , right after starting windows on my 2nd installation for drivers . I can't install audio driver that uses shieldwizard . Getting exactly same issue , shieldwizard freezes , can't do system restore.

I borrowed a friend's disc , installed windows after another quick format . Windows worked ok for 3 days , then video thumbnails stopped viewing probably , unistall confirmation message disappeared , tried all ways to fix them but non did , resintalled windows from friend's disc , quick format , and I still have exactly the same issues again , so what the heck ???

Scanned all my files with Kaspersky , Avast . Nothing found. Even when installed Avast the, trial timer didn't reset , it tell me I still have 18 days left after fresh install , same days left before format , with friend's disc it reset to 30 days.

Does the quick format realy erase anything ?
What's wrong with this sick windows ?

Thanks.

Hello Blackhorse.

What exactly is shieldwizard? is it windows install shield wizard? Keep in mind it is never a good idea to run more than one antivirus on a computer at a time, and this can in fact be causing some of the problem. Most users here would recommend the free microsoft security essentials antivirus as it costs nothing, is easy to use, and is quite a good AV with minimal false positives. Before you uninstall antiviruse software, make sure you download the respective antivirus uninstall tool, as you will need this so as to remove the AV properly.

I myself wouldn't recommend using kaspersky or Avast!, but it is as always up to the user what they will use.

Also, why do you need to do a system restore on a clean install (unless you were refering to the older install)? And are you using your own activation key despite using your friend's CD? You will need your own and you will need to activate windows if you haven't yet. It should be on the side of your computer if you have one.

Do you recieve these same errors after a clean install with only updates, 1 updated antivirus software, and device drivers installed?

Yes, a quick format does erase everything

Try wiping the HD before reinstalling, which clears the boot sector of code which can conflicxt and cause these issues: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Then follow these steps to get a perfect reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

Another way to install your sound driver is to unzip it's files to a location, then browse into the driver's folder from Device Manager>Sound device>Driver tab>Update Drivers>Browse until it picks up the driver. You may not need the software which uses the InstallShield, just the driver.

Yes windows install shieldwizard .
I don't use 2 Anitviruses , after having the same issues , thought there is viruse on my other HDDs , so did installed 2 ( not at the same time ) and did scan to clear any doubts .
Right after windows first start ( no antivruse , no softwares ) , I installed graphic driver , then audio , shieldwizard freezed , tried to system restore before graphic driver , system restore wouldn't load , staying on please wait forever . No I didn't use my friend key , used trial , but I thought maybe my windows installation disc was damaged somehow ?

@Gergrocker
Thanks mate , I used windows XP disc and did quick format from there , used my windows 7 disc and installed windows , now it's working fine . No errors from the old windows.

Maybe windows 7 quick format does not erase everything , come to think , how it would take less than 3 sec to format 500Gb , when XP format took about 10. Windows 7 fails never end -_-

I thank both of you for helping me .
Enjoy and have a nice day.

The regular format only checks for errors on top of what the quick format does, and the quick format does erase everything. Apparantly it isn't thorough. But greg is right, you can wipe the disk and clear all remnants. Glad it is working for you now.
