I'm having fits trying to establish a fresh account at ebay after all else failed to
get through the pop up password completion box.
This may not be the right place to do it, but I know of no better or prompt
and accurate reply site.
First I thought it was Firefox doing the auto complete at sign in or register box.
Then I noticed that the other completion box says ebay login something. It completes and rejects an old password each time. The google questions and answers have not got me out of this.
The standard reply is uncheck the box to keep me logged in. That has failed to do anything.
Also clear clipboard cache for which SevenForums has a shortcut procedure also failed.
I used to have a nice friendly ebay account, now I can't get in for any amount of
re registering (did that) password changes etc.
If you've only tried to re-register on-line, what I would do is physically call ebay's customer service (CS), explain your predicament and have the rep reset your account. There may be a glitch that only a rep can clear and if s/he and you are nice enough the rep may walk you through the process until you can log back in.
I did try to look over the CS part of ebay's site but couldn't come up with a number until I did a google search: phone number for ebay customer service, maybe you can find a better one.
If s/he can reset your account ask how it may affect the account, things like alerts and notifications may have to be adjusted back to your liking.

I'm tired of their menus that lead nowhere and their 'qualifying me' with questions
and no direct access. I also don't care to 'chat' online. It makes me nervous.
It may be I'm just done with them after this.
My rep is ok, I'm a purchaser only and this kind of what I've come to call
"challenging behavior" is unacceptable.
It's definitely an ebay pop up box upper left corner which can't be turned off
or disabled. I think it's directly related to the My Ebay function since I can
browse ebay. I just can't do anything else.
Just happened again. I gave the new password which, throurgh all of this runaround I sort of remember, got the error and bingo, the welcome message returns to my mail box. I can browse but
if I try anything to do with passwords it'll say "oops that's not a match." I'm tired of seeing it
and I'm finished with it.
I appreciate your effort. Maybe someone else will see this GetHuman place as well because
I certainly never did. I will make the effort when I calm down. It may take a while.
Just now I was looking at some of the related topics here on recursive logins ( which must be the magic phrase to describe what goes on.) They said that a system clock error can cause all this frustration.
My system clock may indeed be off by a bit but I have to be cautious about restarts
and so have to continue to avoid that. But it's something that may be in play.
I've had flaky restart problems on one of my systems which is mostly likely old hardware- related.
I know where you're coming from, it does no good to try and fix something when you're fired up. Read over the gethuman page and make a plan for when you do call ebay about all the steps you've taken and see if the CSrep can reset your account, heck if it was me I'd probably wait until tomorrow to call, get involved in some light task around the house to distract you and then get a good nights sleep.
How old? Maybe they need one of those $3 CMOS batteries.

I can mark this as solved.
Much confusion on this one and frustrating but there is a solution at Mozilla, not ebay which I will
print below.
A security setting needs to be changed in Firefox. With a new register at Ebay due to ISP change
etc., turn off the password key box using the instruction below:
In hindsight everything you mentioned in your original post now makes sense especially:
First I thought it was Firefox doing the auto complete at sign in or register box.
Then I noticed that the other completion box says ebay login something. It completes and rejects an old password each time.
