Greetings,

Having some recent difficulties, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help. I'm using the same Dell machine and Windows 7 install that I've been using for years. I've never re-installed the operating system, and I can think of no reason why these problems would suddenly manifest.

The primary symptom is that every so often, I'll get a pop-up alerting me that "This computer is not running genuine Windows."

I click "Resolve online now," which takes me to the download page for the legitcheck.hta MS software tool - which starts - and then starts hitting me with script errors.

In a possibly-related issue, I can no longer run Windows Update; I just get a blank, white window. Yes, I've tried stopping and re-starting the Windows Update service.

I've toyed with a few solutions online - none have borne fruit.

Might someone be able to help? Please let me know if I can provide any additional information. Most appreciated.

Hi Djinn,
please run this tool copy/paste the output

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

note
im not entirely sure thats a genuine pop-up. (not heard of it running scripts)
run Malwarebytes free and do an online scan with Eset.

Hi Djinn,
havn't seen that one for a couple months.

should be reletively easy to rectify:)

Your current set of intel drivers have corrupted the links

please update them from this link,

Download Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology (Intel(R) RST) RAID Driver

use the bottom set please
iata-enu

rerun the tool ALL of the file-mismatches and tampered file errors should be gone.

then try updating

Done, thanks... I aborted Eset, though I may resume it before going to bed tonight. Here's the revised report from Windows Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool. As you expected the file mismatches and tampered file errors are gone.

I'll report back later tonight to whether this resolved the pop-up... I'm optimistic, given that Windows Update has resumed working.

Assuming that all is as good as it appears, could I trouble you to explain to me how you knew that my Intel drivers were causing the problems?
