Solved Getting Windows installed on SSD, setting SSD as main(?) drive?

Hi there,
I just recently bought a new laptop, which has a SSD and a HDD. The plan was to install the OS and my main programs on the SSD, with everything else on the HDD. Things didn't seem to go to plan.

I'm not quite sure what's actually happened, but it seems like the OS has installed itself differently from how I was expecting, as the SSD seems to have two partitions, and my HDD has some/all of the OS installed on it.

Here's a screenshot of what my drives look like in Disk Management:

So I need to work out a way to make my SSD the main boot drive (as I'm assuming the setup above isn't really letting me get the most out of it), and make it so the entire OS is installed to it. Its probably worth noting that as its a laptop, I can't really open it up. Also, I think that for some reason the HDD is set as my primary drive (which might be why I'm having problems).

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

You need to disconnect the other drive when you are installing Windows on the SSD. Otherwise it may place the System files on the other drive.

Looking at your SS your system, the partitions and how Windows is installed, is all messed up. Disconnect the HDD and then Clean the SSD and reinstall Windows on it.

Easiest screw less way is to delete all partitions and leave the hdd untouched. Just set the Ssd up and it will install on it without problems. I've done it a few times through that method. It prevents your hdd from being accessible during installation.

You've somehow had the System boot files installed to the HDD, possibly because it was marked Active. It's also not available for storage until you give it a letter in Disk Mgmt: Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

See if you can disable the HDD in BIOS setup while you reinstall, as an alternative to having to unplug it.

Back up everything you need from the SSD, mark the HD Inactive: Partition - Mark as Inactive - Windows 7 Forums

Then reboot into the installer, during Custom Install use the Drive Options to delete all partitions on the SSD (only) then create a new Partition there, format it and Clean Install Windows 7.

If the HD derails the System flag again, then do it over but this time format an Active partition on the SSD using Step 2.2 here: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Alright, Gregrocker's suggestion appears to have done the trick! Only problem is that there seems to be something remaining of my previous install, as whenever I boot up, it asks which OS I want to boot (both options are Win7, but I should only have the one OS).

How do I stop it from asking me this, and get rid of this extra OS?

Post back another Disk Mgmt screenshot.

Type msconfig in Start Search box, rightclick result to Run As Admin, on Boot tab delete any ghost listing.

If not there install EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required)
to delete ghost listing in Edit OS Menu.
