Ghost connection?

I've set up my computer at my new house today, and I'm getting an internet connection without plugging in any ethernet cable or WiFi adapter.
From what I understand, there's also no WiFi adapter integraded in the motherboard.

Does anybody know what caused this?


By the way, this isn't a bad thing, I just want to know

Open task manager and look for network traffic while loading a website. What is the name of the adapter? Wireless Network Connection?

Some online descriptions of the HP dc7900 says it has Wi-Fi built-in.

When I bought this PC at my local store, they recommended a WiFi adapter along with it, because it wasn't built-in.
I don't know what the deal is here, but thanks for the advice.

Perhaps some versions of this model have Wi-Fi built in and others don't.

In any case, you seem to be automatically connecting to a Wireless Access Point (WAP). Hopefully, it has some security turned on. Hopefully, you own the WAP.

I don't think so, because my router isn't conencted. I got an e-mail from my internet/television provider that they are coming on 27 september for installing the router.

Also, my phone doesn't display any unsecured networks around here.

My laptop can see and connect to many more wireless networks than my phone ever sees. Maybe your desktop is the same way.

Take a look at the SSID that you are connected to. Does it identify where it is from? Also, how strong/weak is the signal strength?

And there is also a Manage wireless connections there too

Yeah - I've seen the links in step 1 of that tut. It is the annoying default size of Paint's whiteboard that causes me to post that second link. Near the bottom of my old 2014 post, I link to the "how to upload screenshots" tutorial. Sadly, not all readers make it to the bottom of that post

I don't want to pollute this thread with the details, but the first bullet in the Note section of the W8 tut is not true for W7. So, that W8 tut does not say how to save the drawing area size for W7. Nor does it explain why one should change the size of the drawing area. I'll stick to linking to my old post

If I open the screenshot program, then the menu that comes out of the icon closes.
How can I take a screenshot of it?

just using default available items, in this position I would use the "Print Screen" key to copy the whole screen, (which would include the menu), to the clipboard and edit it to requirements

Yes, Barman's right! Use Print Screen (Prt Scr) key to copy whole screen, and paste into Paint (run: mspaint). Crop any unnecessary part if possible, mask any personal info that may be visible and save as jpg. Then attach that one here.

(ALT+Prt SCr will copy only the active window, but may not catch the menu.)
