I heard and read as well that is out already.

So, is this the typical UBI Shoddy, unoptimized, buggy Game or have they finally turned the corner? Bwahahahahaha... sorry, couldn't finish the sentence w/o busting a gut laughing :D ;)

Seriously though, aside from the Third Person View (that I hate with a passion because it makes moving so cumbersome), has anybody played the campaign yet? if so... your thoughts are appreciated! :)

I haven't played this game but i've been playing their ghost recon online f2p beta and it seems ok,i'm guessing the mp would be similar to future solider. Runs alright just once in a while it will hiccup for no reason.

From what I hear it's a piss-poor port with no keyboard/mouse support, no fullscreen support, and the visuals are well... also piss-poor.

I really didn't want to hear those things as I was genuinely looking forward to the game since last year but whatever, I guess the delay between release dates meant nothing at all.

Hi Terrornium,

The usual forumites are claiming exactly what you've mentioned, the game is very poorly optimized even for the highest end systems.... some are claiming that once again it runs more poorly on AMD based graphics cards compared to NVIDIA ones, so i guess in your case you're better off skipping this purchase until they properly patch it...

I cancelled my pre-order when they pushed the release date from 15th June to 29th June here in UK. Still not sure if it will be released tomorrow or not.

Also I've been playing Ghost Recon Online F2P Beta, and to be fair it didn't impressed me, gameplay is too laggy and slow and graphics seems old age.

As mentioned above, may be cause I am running AMD cards

I would do my due diligence before I throw money away because, from what I head... Diablo 3 is no better.

I do believe Diablo 3 is also made by Ubisoft, right? if so... then I am right. ;)

Not trying to put you down or piss on your cheerios, more so... trying to understand why!

You pre-ordered a game before even playing a demo? Why would you do that... does money burns a hole in your pocket if you don't spend it? :D

I read on the Ubi forums something that just baffled me to no end... a guy pre-orders the Xbox game, gets irritated to no end with UBi because he can't play a game but he doesn't stop there. To stick it to Ubi, he goes out and buy the PC game as well??? WTH??? I am sorry, but I can not, in good conscious feel sorry for this dude. Sure, UBI should be taken to Jail for abusing people's normal human behavior, after all, if you pay 50 bucks you expect the thing you purchase to function correctly but how can you not educate yourself better when it comes to making purchases?

Anyways, half the fanbois that were praising the game before it came out are the same ones doing the whining right now, the other half are still smoking the same crack pipe telling the others to come down, that UBI will fix all the issues sooner or later, like if this is normal behavior

Well, I guess I am waiting for below the normal bargain bin prices if I decide that the Campaign is worth at least 5 bucks. :zip:

I'm just going to skip ghost recon, their title rainbow six was/is much better then ghost recon,I enjoyed playing rainbow six and rainbow six 2.Ghost recon gets kind of boring and the kills I get in ghost recon online feel like to easy and kind of cheap imo. To easy to play as sniper,I can sit their by the capture point all round and kill a bunch of ppl rushing in and when i run out of ammo then all i do is go to one of their corpse and i'm reloaded again. Anyways I would proably wait for another game, ghost recon online beta didn't impress me to much either, game was ok nothing spectacular.

From what I hear it's a piss-poor port with no keyboard/mouse support, no fullscreen support, and the visuals are well... also piss-poor.

I just wanted to comment that I've been playing the game in fullscreen with keyboard and mouse with no trouble. There is a problem where the mouse cursor doesn't work in some menus, but the direction keys work as a replacement and in game control works like any other FPS. I had absolutely no issues with fullscreen.

Definitely not perfect, definitely a port, but quite playable. I wouldn't recommend installing their latest patch, though. It broke more than it fixed and I had to revert back to the original install.

According to someone that bought the game, the game says to use the HOLD button to Aim??? :shock: where the heck is the HOLD button on a Keyboard? Is that even true? I have never seen a Hold button on my keyboard :D

Also, he says that there are barely 5 or 6 options for mouse/KB keys... how do you choose which keys you want to use for Aim or Scope? Jesus, it seems each time Ubi ports a console game, there are less and less options for mouse/KB's

No, not true at all. Right mouse button aims just like many other shooters. Unless that someone is trying to control everything with just KB only, I haven't tried that.

[/QUOTE]

I can't really elaborate on that one, I just used the stuff that came up by default and it seemed pretty intuitive. There's some stuff like running from cover to cover is executed by aiming at a cover point while already in cover and holding down shift that seemed uncomfortable at first because I'd never seen it done that way before, but really, the default controls are pretty basic and should be no problem for anyone who has played 1st/3rd person shooters before.

I have to agree that ports always simplify the commands down to what you can fit on a controller, and if people are comparing it to the Rainbow Six titles of old that might be the reason there's some hatred out there for this title. But for all the limitations that come with being a port, I'd have to say it's not bad at all.

Ok, say that is true, what button of the mouse and/or Keyboard do you push when the screen t tells you to hold the HOLD button to aim?

That's just it, I never saw the game ask me to press the 'HOLD' button. As in my previous post, you use the right mouse button to aim. It does ask you to hold some of the keys to access extra functions, like tapping the F quick tosses a grenade/sensor/W.H.Y. and holding F shows you the trajectory arc before you release to throw for more precise control. In that case it says 'HOLD F' to throw. Maybe that's confusing some people.

Hmmm, you may be right... I am going to my friend's house later to tell him, yet again, how much I think he's got more money than brains and to see exactly what is the problem and whether I will spend the 5 bucks buying the game in a few weeks time ;)

Like me, he uses the RMB to walk instead of the W but I doubt that this is why he is having issues. He did say that it took an awful long time to install but again, I doubt this is a problem.

Hey AstaLaVista,

You got me really curious about the control configs on this game so I booted up my gaming rig after my last post and checked it out. Turns out everything is user configurable on the KB/mouse controls, but nothing is configurable on the controller. So, your bud should be able to change every binding to whatever he wants.

Also, I forgot to mention that having a USB controller plugged in is apparently screwing up KB/mouse control for some people, so pulling the plug on the 360 controller or what have you is recommended.

Ok, he does not have a controller plugged in, that I know for a fact. He also says that there is only a few option for the key/mouse, he does not see or have access to change Aim or Zoom or anything else but the basics.

Now, being said that, he has not patched the game yet, I told him not to do it after the horrors I read when you patch the game to 1.02 or whatever the patch version is. So, unless one of those patches gives you more options for kb/mouse controls then he botched something in the installation.

What version of the game are you running? if patched, is everything working fine? I will be at his house in a couple of hours so I can still get a few more answers fo him :d

He also only does Campaign, he doesn't play MP so he doesn't really care to patch the games and I didn't read anything about fixing mouse/kb options on any of the patches's list

Edit: OK, you do have more choices of KB/mouse but you need to hover your mouse on the options and scroll down, there is no tab to show you that you can do so and I found it by luck ;). Luckily, I didn't patch it before I found a way.

Now, it says to use Q to select your targets and keep Q press so your teammates can shoot at the same time but it does not seem to work or we are doing something wrong. There is a point in the first mission where you must rescue paez and you must do it silently and I stopped there as I got shot down to many times trying to shoot my way in :(

So far, shody port but playable (if you don't mind some of the functions not working). Graphics are not bad but they could be better for sure. Third Person just screams Run and Gun, there is nothing tactical about this game since so far, this mission is pretty linear. Moves are cumbersome because of TPV and I sure miss First Person View. That sensor grenade makes you feel like a God as you can't miss a baddie :D. I particularly don't like assists or being held by the hand and constantly told what to do but I guess that's what the masses want so that's what they get.

There is a point in the first mission where you must rescue paez and you must do it silently and I stopped there as I got shot down to many times trying to shoot my way in :(

If you tap the Q key while aiming at a target it marks it for your team. You can mark 4 targets and the last one is yours. If all the icons on the screen (there are 1-4 icons in the top left that show if at least one target is marked) are blue, they will fire when you fire. If you have less than 4 marked it gets dicey, sometimes they fire when you do, sometimes not, I haven't figured out the pattern yet. What you can do though is hold the Q key down and all team members with a locked target in sights will fire. So, you can take a high vantage point, target 3 enemies, and your team will move to good firing positions and take them out on your order.

I've found the AI pathfinding can get stupid sometimes. On one infiltration mission two of my guys were taking way too long to line up targets and when I checked on them they were stuck on a piece of scenery. When I reloaded the mission, all was fine, so yeah, bugs are definitely there. But I think the functions are working, they are just hard for some people to get their head around, and the game is not at all clear with the help popups. For example, I didn't know you could roll side to side from the prone position until I saw the info on a loading screen. I feel like I'm getting close to the end of the campaign and I have to admit I liked it. I'd class it as better than Gears of War, but then again I hated Gears of War so that's not saying much.

If you liked the sensor grenade, you'll really like the remote drones.:D

Edit: forgot to mention the version I'm running is 1.0.120531. I think that's the release day version, and I'm not going to screw around with any patches until I finished the campaign, which isn't gonna happen today. Canada Day up here so it's time to party.

Other Info
This is my recording studio PC. I also have a gaming rig, a HTPC, an old dual-core system I set up as a server, and a few old dinosaurs (the oldest is an Intel P-90) that I use for DOS and Win95 gaming when I feel nostalgic.
Gunsmith options are not user friendly, I tried this a few times and I couldn't find an option to attach a suppressor to my main or secondary weapon... is there a secret handshake to do this? :D

Choosing RAMDON gives an option of some suppressed weapons but it changes the whole previous customization on you... oh well :(

I find it funny (and a little insulting as well) that the Ghost Team is in Zambia (Africa) and the people are speaking Portuguese like if the were in Brazil... WTF!!!

I know, don't sweat the little things, right? little things are what make me upset or happy... what can I tell you.

Yeah, the game is full of bugs, unacceptable but, like most people you have come to expect and live with it, you man up and continue on. The problem is that, the line between a finished game and Unfinished is thin and gray, the more you allow them to pass over the draw line, the buggier the next game will be until such time that it will be ok for you to pay a year or two ahead before the game is even announce.

Unthinkable, right? Well, remember the days when you game could be open and you were promptly playing with it instead of waiting for patches or promises of support? I do :(
