Hello!

Here's the deal: I have two Gmail accounts. One is my "real one" (let's call it account A) and the other one is just for fooling around (let's call it account B).

I've been exchanging e-mails with someone on my A account for the last two weeks. I have used the B account a while ago to register on LinkedIn, but I didn't enter any data or anything there, haven't even logged to Linked in for months now.

And today I got a LinkedIn messaga on the B account asking me if I know the person that I've been talking with on the account A. How the **** does LinkedIn know who I know/I'm mailing - on a totally separate Gmail account?!

Please, someone explain. Thanx!

Most likely that person is just in the network of someone who's in your network.

I have no-one in my network. I never added any data to LinkedIn. And I have never mailed that particular person from my "B" Gmail account (that's the account that I used to register at LinkedIn). I don't like this at all.

Check LinkedIn privacy policy:

https://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy

It sounds a lot like Facebook - in other words if you're logged in to your linked in account cookies are set and data can be collected from any other sites you visit.

   Note
You allow us to receive information when you use your account to log in to a third-party website or application

I suppose that also includes addresses stored by your email client if you use one to access gmail.

I don't use a clienet, I access Gmail through their web interface. I'm 100% sure that I was never logged into my A Gmail account and LinkedIn at the same time. 100% sure. And I have security set so that everything gets deleted after I close Firefox (3rd party sandbox), so nothing can remain. And then this happens - I really don't get it, how?

Maybe your accounts are linked somehow.

https://www.google.com/dashboard/

https://myaccount.google.com/intro

Check what is shown.

Ideas:

Your browser leaked the info. (maybe) Doesn't matter about deleting data once you close the browser. It should be deleted when you close a website's tab.

Or someone has both your accounts in their address book.

Possible browser fingerprinting, geo location and ip address logging or other tracking methods.

Maybe try this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lightbeam/

Only enable when needed. Otherwise keep disabled.
