Solved Gmail unabtainable?

I've been trying to install Google Chrome but my computer won't install the installation file. Is there a reason why Windows 7 won't allow this file to be installed? I installed Firefox 24.0 and that installed perfectly, however, when I try to open my gmail account it says it cannot direct me to the page. I have checked the Firewall and the browser settings and they appear to be okay. In fact, I can view Twitter and Facebook but not my gmail ... what could be wrong? Any ideas?

I take it you think it could be a virus/malware?
I already have Malwarebytes Pro running on the Computer.

I have another pc running Windows XP in another room ... both pc's are connected through a wireless router. I checked the network settings on the XP and mirrored them on the Win 7 machine. It appears that either Malwarebytes removed an important cookie, or installing Firefox 24.0 somehow altered the settings, I suspect a bit of both. The bottom line is, is that I un-quarantined what had been recently removed by Malwarebytes and changed the network settings ... we are now back on line.
