Hi,

 • I’m bidding for a Dell OptiPlex 780 Small PC -Core2Duo E8400 3GHz 4GB DDR3 500GB HDD Win 7 Pro OS because it faster than my present Dell OptiPlex 520 Pentium D 2.8 GHz Win 7 X 64 Home Premium.

 • So far I don’t know if this prospective PC is a 32 or 64bit.

 • My plan is to restore/transfer everything to the new one from the old. Also I have my old PC’s backup (Macrium Reflect). Having quite limited computer knowledge, I’d appreciate every bit of help how to go about it any further.
Thank you

Hi,

Its certainly 64 bit capable.

Manual:
http://i.dell.com/sites/content/bus...docs/en/Documents/optiplex-780-tech-guide.pdf

Does this new Dell come with a pre-installed Windows 7 Professional licence? If so, there are cases where these licences turn out to be counterfeit - it depends on the reputation of the site/seller. Can you provide a link to the site?

Your current Windows 7 on the old Dell cannot be used on the new Dell, unless it is a retail licence (did not come pre-installed). Can you provide more detail on your existing Dell Windows 7 so we can determine that?

Regards,
Golden

Hi,

 • Below in red the link to this "new" Dell machine for sell.
The site states: this computer comes with attached COA.

 • The second red line refers to my Dell.

Dunno, this looks legit, as far as Ebay bids go (there is always some risk). If it does not have a COA sticker you can start a controversy (better if with Paypal) over that and force him to take it back, as the guy states that there is one in the description.

As far as the license on your old/current PC, even if it is linked to the old hardware if you call MS and explain the situation over the phone. Read this. If they agree and give you another activation code you should be able to move it with a sysprep (and there are also decent chances you can do it by simply moving the hard drive to the new PC).
