Going to BIOS after Windows installed updates?

Hello
I have a potential question - yesterday night my Win7 x64 Home Premium installed 6 new updates, they were installed after shut down, one after another, after going to 100% system shut down.
After that, today morning I went to BIOS after turning on, because I wanted to confirm my settings are 100% default there (besides RAM set to 1600mhz) and after looking there i exited via "discard changes and exit" (did not change anything at all, just want to see what are things set to be sure).

Next on the screen WINDOWS STARTING i had some path like Registry/machine/etc. ? something like that then system rebooted and ended installing updates as usual, saw this before after updates were installed.

Now onto my question - could potentially something might go wrong because of me going to BIOS on the next PC launch? I know that BIOS is not related to system and general HDD content, but this was first time I had situation like this, so can you confirm - is going to BIOS like this, after Win had installed updates with shutting down, and after next boot go first to BIOS (UEFI actually) and then booting system and finishing update procedure is 100% safe?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
First of all windows does not shut down to install updates it restarts or boots,
Interrupting that process is not a good idea,
Cheers.

It should have no affect on Windows.

You`re 2 3rds correct Mike, windows can also update as it shuts down, but I`m sure that`s also what you meant :)

Yep pretty much,
Either way windows updates don't alter the bios anyway as far as I know :/
So checking the bios is just asking for errors ;)

The most important thing is to NEVER interrupt windows when it`s doing updates, sometimes it will take a long time to re boot or shut down, just don`t touch the pc, leave it alone.

Okay I have only had one pot of coffee this mourning. But here goes.

Where does one get such a idea of going into bios when Windows 7 is updating? Where ever that place is don't go there again.

What I do and it works.
When updating Windows 7 I do nothing on my computer and I mean nothing except following the on screen instruction for reboots.

Windows 7 Updates does not alter the bios. Windows 7 Update are installed exactly where the title indicates; into Windows 7 the operating system.

I'm back to the kitchen for more coffee.

I think you misunderstood me here - I had downloaded updates by Windows Update and system was showing yellow mark on SHUTDOWN button that was saying (install updates then shutdown computer).

I was done using my PC that day so I shutdown, Windows done some updating and shutdown itself.
The next day morning when I turned ON my PC, then I wanted to re check my BIOS/UEFI settings (is intel speed step enabled, like it should be by default) had to do it anyway, so I went to BIOS, checked and confirmed what I wanted and exited.

Then Windows started and have done installing updates, my question in this thread is DID GOING TO BIOS IN TIME LIKE THIS COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE ANY HARMFUL EFFECT ON WINDOWS/PC?

As far as I know -not at all since BIOS settings are booted before windows or any other operating system and those settings are not even saved on HDD, but I just wanted some PC expert opinion on this.

You are correct.

Updates queued on Shutdown button are automatics waiting for reboot or in some cases full Shutdown.

So nothing to worry about here guys?
I just forgot that updates were beign installed before last shutdown and went to BIOS like that, but if you say that it was not dangerous at all, then I can be calm about new PC :)

So member, can you surely confirm that going to BIOS in next boot after shutdown, in which Win7 installed updates were 100% safe for my system and PC? Going to BIOS/UEFI is something unrelated to system and updates right?
Any explanation from somePC specialist would be great.

Not at all, I just had event like that and would like to know for sure if it was not potentially harmful for windows or PC.
This is almost new PC (+2 month) so I'm a little paranoid about it.

If you haven't changed setting in your bios and Windows 7 got all it updates you should not have any problems.
I would reboot a couple of times then check Windows Updates again to make sure you got all of them.

I personally would wait for the login screen to show up then if you wish restart with the button on the bottom right select restart,

Sometimes major updates don't fully load/ install until regular restart goes to the login screen which happens after the bios window flash

But as stated nothing is a 100% in this world restarts take less than a 15-30 seconds depending on systems not a whole lot of time to be cautious ;)
