Good AGP Card

I have a little bit older system. I'm running the 64 bit RTM and everything is working well. I want to upgrade my video card but I dont know what I should get. My only problem is it has to be an AGP card. I don't really play the most updated games but I want the best card I can get for around 100 bucks. I just want to make sure it works well with 7.

Any suggestions?

i think you may have a problem supplying the new card with enough power in your old rig.

please visit your user control panel (see user cp link near top of window) and fill in your system specs.

what wattage is your power supply unit?

the card that skunksmash suggested looks good, but needs a psu of at least 400w to be on the safe side.

I think the best one right now would be the ATI HD4650 w/ 1 GB DDR2.

You can pick them up for around $100.00 now.

Not that it matters as the card that skunksmash linked to comes with the necessary adapter.

As far as the power supply goes if the number here (48W for that 4650),

I don't get why the core clock is only 600 mHz on the 4650. And memory is only 1000 mHz, effective?

My 3850 AGP without manual overclocking (it is OC from factory in bios) is 720 mHz and I get it to 805 mHz stable, no volt mod. And I've never found the highest I can overclock the memory. I get it from 1820 to 2350 mHz and haven't tried anything higher. It would go though lol. It's GDDR3 256 bit. A link to it is here if anyone is interested. I highly recommend it although it could still be pricey. I dunno. Two slots are necessary though. One AGP and one whatever-is-next-to-AGP slot. Most likely PCI slot, or sometimes empty. Latest ATI hotfix driver always installs well over old. No problems ever with drivers in XP/Vista/7.

Overall though, that 4650 will be an excellent card but perhaps you can find one by HIS that is even better. Here are their current offerings.

Oh, alright. I think I understand now. Like a P4 2.66 gHz isn't the same as an i7 2.66. Gotcha.
