Good multiport USB Hub?

My windows 7 computer is 2 years old. Everything works fine.
But USB ports in its tower are almost saturated. So I need a reliable multiport USB hub. I have a 10-year old Targus 4-port hub. It works for most applications but it does not work with Seagate portable drives (both V2 and v3). For use with portable drives, USB must be connect to a USB port on the tower,. This means that the Targu usb hub is weak. Could someone advise me reliable usb hubs which can use Seagate portable drives? Thanks.

You have not stated if the Targus hub is powered. You will need a powered hub & even many of them will not work with USB hard drives. I would like to know which one will work, too, as none of my WD USB portable drives will work through my "no name" USB hub.

I bought a cheap 6 port powered usb hub on ebay for about £6. Its great! Works with everything I plug in even multiple hard drives. Mines also on a 5mt extension lead which would normally limit its performance. Its made or distributed by safecom

I have a Trust 10 port powered USB hub which is currently running 3 USB HDD, 1 printer, 2 pendrives a digital TV stick and an external DVD drive. No problems in the last 6 months apart from a dodgy pendrive.

What do you mean saturated? Are you running out of ports or bandwidth? If bandwidth, a Hub won't help unless you are under utilizing one of the ports on your computer. Sounds like for the drive issue, you need a powered USB Hub - has nothing to do with the Hub being "weak" - only in the sense it doesn't supply enough power to the device.

I would go with Belkin

I have a powered Belkin Hub but , I don't use the power adapter it works fine without it

I havn't had any issue's and it's been atleast 4 years strong

I can second the opinion on Belkin. I have their non-powered 4 port hub which seems to be working fine for my keyboard, mouse, an external powered usb drive (has it's own psu though) - but as soon as I plug in my USB Wifi on the hub - everything shuts off BUT that isn't a surprise as it's a non-powered usb hub for $9
