Solved Good solid cheap mouse from Amazon

Hi guys,

I want to buy a good quality but cheap priced mouse from Amazon US, made from either Microsoft or Logitech. I see a lot of mice and am getting really confused lol. I want an optical mouse, wired, I'm using a laptop but I want a desktop size mouse anyways, med-sized preferred. I want the scroll-er to kind of not like roll endlessly (smooth) but to roll incrementally or step by step (if you know what I mean). I guess I'm going to play some games but I don't think a 'gaming mouse' is necessary. I play COD, Crysis, Generals ect... I will not pay anymore than say 25 bucks, although a mouse in the $10 range would be preferred.

Here are some I've been looking into, could you pick the best one out of these 5 and tell me (feel free to select others from Amazon and recommend to me).

While this is a Dell mouse, thus not a brand that you mentioned, I have one of these laser mice at work and it's quite solid

Over the years I have used every mouse ranging from some thing pulled out of the bargin bin at microcenter on up to fancy gaming things costing ridiculous amounts of money and taking a lot of time and effort to set up properly.

I am a avid gamer myself (a fairly decent one at that if my stats are to be believed) and the mouse is a tool I use a lot.

Taking all that into consideration what I am currently using is a standard 5 button microsoft intellimouse. (black)
I believe it to be about the best one money can buy.
All that fancy stuff is just needless anyhow it's to make people with lots of money and little commonsense believe they're crummy game is going to improve just because they have a 20million dpi mouse.

is there a reason you don't want wireless?
My preference is Logitech since they have a pretty much no questions asked replacement policy on their mice.

I have bad experience with wireless mice and I don't want to constantly change the battery ect. ect.

This is what I use when I work in the field printing photos from photoshop. I changed the battery last week and it had the same battery in it for over a year.

This is another one I use for my netbook.

It is a little smaller than the one above but has a nano receiver that you can leave plugged into the laptop.

I gave up on wired mice when I bought my first wireless back in the day, a Logitech MX1000. It lasted 2.5 years of 10 hours of use every day and Logitech replaced it no questions asked when I called them about the left click double clicking with a single click.
I still have the replacement MX1000 on my HTPC and use the G700 mouse on my main rig.
I currently own 6 Logitech wireless mice.

The Logitech M310 goes for around $20 and is pretty good.

Ive got one I used to death and still have for a backup. been very reliable.
Its also wireless with a decent battery lifespan.

Hmmm the M310 looks good and tempting. How long does the battery last before needing to change? Also, is it good for playing first person shooter games?

Im not exactly sure, but my 310 would last 3-4 months.

But I never turn it off either, always forget. So you may be able to get a bit longer from it.
It takes 1 AA battery.


It does fine for gaming. Just a basic 3 button mouse with nothing fancy.
Theres better out there that are more configurable, more buttons etc, but those are also getting into the pricey gaming mice.

For a basic mouse, at a reasonable price, I can't really find anything to complain about with it TBH.

I couldn't say. I've never had or used one of those.

Alright I'll go ahead and get it . If I get a problem with the mouse, how would I give it to Logitech to fix it? A local store, or returning it to Amazon?

Speaking just for myself, I've never had any interest in having a wireless mouse myself or keyboard for that matter. The cord has never really been an issue, and it's not as if I walk around my house with my keyboard/mouse in my hand. Just the fact that I would have to put in batteries or recharge it makes it a component which then costs me some amount of money to run.


I've had a Logitech MX-510 for years on my Linux machine..it works really good.
