Okay, I need to put stuff on the desktop computer at my wife's business. The desktop is running Windows 2000 Professional. I didn't see a firewall settings under the control panel... I can only assume it has one and I didn't see it?

What about 3rd party software? Best firewall for it?

What about antimalware software? Would A Squared, MBAM, or MSE run under Windows 2000 Pro?

Thanks for the help!

Strange place to ask about win 2000. I am not sure what is installed but you can try installing MSE, and it may work. I would suggest you ask the question on a forum that handles win 2000 for more accurate information.

Hi, ctt1wbw.

A software firewall was not included with Windows operating systems until Windows XP. That said, extended support for Windows 2000 Pro is reaching its end on July 13, 2010 (See Microsoft Product Lifecycle Search).

Another consideration is that the free software programs you mentioned are free for personal use, not for business use. For a business solution, you need to consider a paid, licensed software, many of which are phasing out support for Windows 2000.

Ah, I see. I might want to upgrade her OS but I'm not sure her tanning salon software is compatible with Windows 7. I'll check though. If I can get Windows 7 Pro on there, I know what to do.
