Solved Good Substitute Software for Windows Live Essentials

Have been using the Windows Movie Maker and Live Photo Gallery components of Window Live Essentials since
original install of Windows 7 that happened in 2013. Have just done a fresh install of Windows 7 and wanted to reinstall them through download installer. Problem is they just will not install. After downloading the installer and running it things progress to about 1/3rd of install process and then just sit there with no further progress.

Am aware Microsoft is phasing out Window Live Essentials so can someone tell me how to obtain Windows Movie Maker and Live Photo Gallery OR alternatively recommend Microsoft or other product that are similar
to these two. I am not wanting super complex/elaborate software for these purposes and I liked these two as they were basic without being bare-bones; nor where they overly elaborate and beyond my needs such as say something like Adobe Photoshop Elements.

For pictures I recommend the FastStone image viewer.

Hi WHS can you tell me if the Fast Stone Image Viewer will allow one to have several pictures opened at same time with separate window for each picture. Also most image software will allow reversion of edited image back to its original state...do you know the folder location where originals are kept.

Have been using VLC for years and love it but I was not looking for a video player but a video editor much like Windows Movie Maker. Any suggestions? Thx..Gary

Here is an editor that I use because it is lossless. But it has certain restriction. You cannot mix apples and oranges.

Thanks all for your help. I will look into that software as they sound good. In meantime have been able to install Windows Live Essentials which is the problem that started my query. Recently did fresh install of W7 and have had to wait for Windows update to catch up with Windows Live Essentials so its installer will work.
WLE is dependent on Windows Update downloaded and installed.
