good win 7 burning program

can anyone recommend a nice lite and easy to use buring program to convert *avi files to dvd and also burn *iso files be a big help anything but nero as it's to slow and take so long to get things done

I havent ever used Nero to convert, I tend not to use Nero cus I think its awful.

I dunno how long it takes, probably about an hour but you can add menus and join multiple .avi's into one DVD and stuff. I like it.

imgburn is great for basic burning of isos and verifying the burn. Very reliable free app. One of the first things I install on a new installation.

To convert video files to DVD, as mentioned above, convertxtodvd is probably the "gold standard" app. To go the other way, DVDPean Pro looks interesting but I haven't tried it yet.

I also like Ashampoo Burning Studio 9 for very comprehensive burning related functions and much less bloat than Nero. It has the easiest clearest interface to use I think I've ever seen in any software. Makes doing some of the more complicated stuff very easy.

DVD Flick is great for converting avi's (or nearly ANY video file type even .MKV) to DVD.

For ISO's I use Active@ ISO Burner (free also) Active@ ISO Burner. Data CD DVD burning software. Write ISO image to CD,DVD,CD-RW,CDR,DVD-RW.
(Windows 7 Upgrade advisor claims it is not compatible with Windows 7, but I used it for months in both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7.)

...or for ISOs you can use the built-in ISO burner that is new to Windows 7l, simple double click the iso to launch it. (it isn't very powerful though, but gets the job done.)

Looks like you have a kick ass machine there. If you want to maximize your core usage while converting from .avi to dvd I recommend you try FAVC

It's no longer being developed afaik but it works with Vista and W7 and has a 64 bit version. You can update to the latest HCenc beta just by copying and renaming the HC enc exe file. The latest HC beta is available on the same site as the above link.

FAVC will analyze the input file and launch an encoder for each CPU core to encode a range of the input file, then it will process the audio and mux everything back together and author the titles. You can set it to burn with Imgburn or just output a VIDEO_TS folder or an .iso image file. It maxes out my cores at 100%.

Oh yeah, and it's free.
