I have to admit, I often the feel the same way. Opt-in or opt-out, it's almost immaterial to me. I gave up using Gmail ages ago and much prefer the Yahoo mail interface anyhow. Uh Oh ...:zip:

I must say I disagree strongly with the guy's logic.

So what if every keystroke is sent to Google's servers to give search results? The guy is dissing Chrome because it is communicating with Google's servers in real-time, compared to only once in IE.

Just the fact that the data is being sent does not mean Google is collecting it either.

Now the conclusion may or may not be true, that IE is more secure. But that is a pretty poor argument!

JK is right in that just because they collect information, how they actually store and categorize it, determines what kind of usage may be involved. I would not assume anything sinister, but then, that is my general take on companies, maybe I am too trusing!

However...there always is the opportunity for an invasion of privacy here...just is it happening or not? Again, I suspect that the answer is no, but the problem is, what would prevent some enterprising person who is perhaps less altruistic, from hi-jacking that information? My concern would be more along the lines of do they adequately safeguard whatever information that they do collect?

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black how about all the patches IE 8 needs through Windows update,
I changed the default search engine Bing to Google it took me about 15 minutes.
and if a AwesomeBar is such a bad thing why does IE8 provide one as a addon.
If Microsoft were truly concerned about safety on the web they would get rid of IE6 & IE7 .

I only have one update for IE8 right now, and my system is fully updated at the moment. Then there's one update for the compatibility view, which is optional. How can a single update be construed as "all the patches Windows needs for IE8 right now?"

Only one. :D

I checked myself & you are right must admit i was surprised. Seems Microsoft has started to reform.
It is however still the slowest browser as well as the worst at following standards I ran the
sputnik Javascript conformance test on IE 8 it froze for 15 minutes at 71% before continuing & failed the test
470 times.
Opera, Safari Beat Chrome On Google’s Own JavaScript Conformance Test
I shudder to think how IE 6 & 7 would do, IE is holding the Internet back forcing developers to code for outdated browsers.

Do you use store's "Rewards " cards? Do you use ATM cards? Do you carry a cell phone around? Do you get internet service from an ISP? Have you ever bought anything online? You don't really have any "privacy", if you think you do you are just wrong. Giving any false sense of privacy doesn't help anyone. Main thing is to just protect your credit card info and social security number.

They sell advertising of cause they are track where you going. creates a better target market.

They also do keep the data records. There was a court cases in usa where a gov organisation wanted the data and google didn't want to supply it. ( sorry can't remember any more details.

Stopped using chrome back in the days i was using zone alarm and discovered that chrome want to access the internet ever 5-10 min when it wasn't in use.

Technically, I hear that Chrome only communicates with its servers if you choose to help make chrome better when you download, but they still arent tracking it. They dont keep it and then share it with others.

Plus if your scared about using Chrome, use ChromePlus. Its based off Chromium and NOT made by google. Plus its on Askvg.com, and she never posts anything that isnt safe, unless she's telling you it isnt safe.

If I want speed I use Opera 10.51 far faster a much better browser.
I merely pointed out that increasing the paging file will speed up IE. I'm not about to get into a browser debate. It's a matter of choice which browser you "think" is better. All browsers are pretty much the same speed on my machine. Click and your there.

I agree that Google do like knowing a lot about their users but for Microsoft to judge other browsers is a but much.

Can't argue with that, but it was posted more out of a "did you know this" deal, rather than to slam Google, and glorify IE. ;)
