I thought the Chinese attack was caused by a vulnerability in IE6. If that's the case, Google is being incredibly naive. Instead of wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on getting hundreds of new Macs, maybe they should just stick upgrade to Windows 7 and IE8 or better yet, use their own browser, Google Chrome.

“We’re not doing any more Windows. It is a security effort,” said one Google employee.
I did a bit of reading on this too, from several sources.

It all seems to point to quotes from "Google employees".
Any word that its an actual decision from the higher up's? Has Larry himself said anything on the matter?

Its almost as ridiculous as me saying "I personnaly dislike Macs because of so and so reason. So my company is going to scrap them." when I dont have the power to actually scrap the entire university's use of Macs.

I could be wrong, however. It just would be nice to see an official word from Google.
So it is in my opinion to be one of those publicity stunts against Microsoft.

Late last night news emerged that Google is banning Microsoft Windows from its corporate offices. This is the final resolution of the Google vs. China cyber warfare, a conflict that began with the hacking of a Windows-based computer at Google.

As of today, if you want a Microsoft machine at the Google offices, you need permission from the Chief Information Officer himself -- otherwise, Google employees are being given the choice of either a Mac or Linux desktop machine.

But... I wonder if Google spoke to Microsoft before publicly decrying and defaming the state of Windows security -- this is libel. This is yet another example of Microsoft unduly paying the price for old installations of Windows and Internet Explorer 6 -- something the CIO at Google should be held accountable for, not Microsoft.

All recent research and attempted hacks would suggest that Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8 is one of the most secure Web browsing platforms out there. It's certainly more secure than Mac combined with Safari -- and if this is the start of a mass exodus from Microsoft to Apple in the workplace... well, Apple will be forced to tighten things up! As our our pale white inbred siblings at TUAW suggest, you can be sure that more malware will target Mac if it is adopted by large businesses.

And finally, what if Microsoft turned the tables on Google and simply banned you from searching it on Windows computers? What if 'google.com' was redirected to 'bing.com'? Microsoft certainly has grounds for such an act: after all, top Google results often contain spyware or malicious malware.

But alas, Microsoft would never do such a thing. Its balls have already been well and truly trampled after decades of litigation. Google, however... Google is just warming up; Google's just testing its mettle.

Security my arse.

This is just another ploy in Google's domination attempt.

Well played. Who's evil now? Apple and Google. It's GM vs. Toyota and Datsun all over again. Or IBM vs. Microsoft and Apple. It's just the natural selection we seem to adore in America.

It's OK... let 'em migrate to Mac or Linux... Yeah, Windows suffers from most attacks and vulnerabilities. You know why? because is the most used. Let them stay with Mac, once Mac gets more popularity, attackers will start to forget about Windows and start to punish Mac... Then they will say Mac is unsecure and change to Linux, onece again attackers see Linux is popular will find a way to bash out people (even if that means going against themselves) Then Google will say Linux is bad and return back to Windows...

Result? Why don't they put more attention to their security flaws? Many sites were hacked around all this time (I mean all this internet age) and they still use their OSes with better protection (firewalls, AV, Anty-spywares...).

I guess that this time Bill is getting more enemies than ever... And I cannot see the reason this time (I don't see any problem because of stealling code, or monopolies or something like that...)

The fight for our souls began...

See ya!! :D

Maybe the do-no-evil corporation has some unlicensed copies running and is desperate to hide that fact, just guessing...

Free apps install spyware on Macs | InSecurity Complex - CNET News

Mac users downloading free screensavers and a video converter app from several popular download sites also got spyware that installs a back door, collects data, and sends encrypted information to remote servers, security company Intego said on Tuesday.

Yes, Bing is good. I liked it enough that it is my homepage and my default search provider. Yet, I still end up clicking that little arrow right of the magnifying glass in my browser search box and then hit......... "Google" I have to admit that some searches are just better searched with Google.

It's prety clear that Google wants to replace Windows. Not just internally but world-wide. So internally they probably loath giving money to Microsoft. It's the only angle that the descision makes any sense.

The upshot will probably be that their Windows software goes down the crapper like most of Apple's Windows software. When your developing for a platform that by company policy you are required to deride at every turn, the results will not be good.
