This is quoted right from a web page, just curious how true it is and if its necessary, thanks Sandie
Computerworld - Microsoft's Internet Explorer zips through JavaScript nearly 10 times faster than usual when Google's new Chrome Frame plug-in is partnered with the browser, benchmark tests show.
According to tests run by Computerworld, Internet Explorer 8 (IE8)and(IE9) with the plug-in was 9.6 times faster than on its own. Computerworld ran the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark suite three times each with Chrome Frame, and than without the plug-in, then averaged the scores.
Released Tuesday, Chrome Frame lets IE utilize the Chrome browser's WebKit rendering engine, as well as its high-performance V8 JavaScript engine. Google pitched the plug-in as a way to instantly improve the performance of the notoriously slow IE, and as a way for Web developers to support standards IE can't handle, such as HTML 5.

also what exactly is Google Chrome Frame plug-in?

Google Chrome Frame FAQ - The Chromium Projects

It sounds like both the website and the user have to have this installed in order to do anything:
Does Google Chrome Frame handle the display of all websites when I install it

No, only sites that explicitly opt-in to using it will take advantage of its capabilities.

Read the article & it states the plug-in is only available for for IE 6, 7 & 8 .
I would be very surprised if the plug-in was for IE 9 as it is already faster than Chrome running the Sunspider JavaScript benchmark.
WebKit SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark Results
There is some controversy about whether or not IE 9 is really fastest or cheats on the benchmark.
Lies, damned lies, and benchmarks: is IE9 cheating at SunSpider?
