Due to Google's new
Google Instant feature, the existing Search Query Suggestions feature - which provides a list of suggested search terms as you type in the Google Search box - and which could previously be switched on or off, is now always on. A Google employee
says that this is a deliberate decision by Google as part of their vision of a 'unified Google search experience', which means that just like the Everything Sidebar, it is unlikely Google will allow users to disable or alter this feature. Accordingly, I've added the solution to turning off the Query Suggestion feature to my revised
Google Customization Guide. I have the feeling in coming months the guide will continue to grow as Google increasingly loses sight of the simplicity which made its search so popular in the first place.
