From Gizmodo: Google Is Really Freaking the Hell Out of Me

Today, Google's founder Sergey Brin said that they want to be your third "brain half". Yesterday, Eric Schmidt said Google knows where you are, what you like, and will suggest what you should do next. And that wasn't all.
These are my favorites quotes from the Google CEO—and Steve Jobs' best friend—said yesterday at Berlin's IFA:
"We can suggest what you should do next, what you care about. Imagine: We know where you are, we know what you like."
"Not only are you never lonely, you're never bored! We'll suggest what you should be watching, because we know what you care about."
"A near-term future in which you don't forget anything, because the computer remembers. You're never lost."

What strikes me about this is that Google seems to be so insular, drinking their own koolaid so to speak, that they don't really think about the ramafications of what they are saying or proposing or even how people might feel about it...

Or maybe they are smart enough to know that all you have to do is keep chipping away decade after decade and after us old timers all die out the brave new world of every facet of your life being world wide watchable and the computer doing all your thinking for you will just be normal.

And watch what happens to people when the Internet and/or computers are down. Everything comes to a standstill.

We need to teach critical thinking in public schools. We need to solve problems using our own minds. Imaginative play should be encouraged during formative years. We need not to fear being unplugged.

True.

In a utopian world, Googles vision would be fantastic. But this is not a utopian world.
