Google's YouTube

Greetings all,

I have had a login at YouTube for sometime now and I use it frequently. Now that Google has acquired YouTube I am frequently asked to join my YouTube account with my Google account. However I do not have a Google account because I don't want one. It would be well if my choice of 'no thanks' would be noted and remembered but this happens again and again. I am beginning to feel pressured and this is not pleasant.

Now, we’re gradually asking all remaining users still using the older YouTube account system (pre-May 2009) to link a Google Account to their YouTube username. This is required in order to continue using your YouTube username.

Why are you requiring older YouTube Accounts to link to a Google Account?

Here are the main reasons:

• Improved account security. The Google Account system is robust and will help reduce spam across the site; users will get a slew of security and safety features that Google has spent the past decade developing.
• A single account system. This may not mean much to anyone outside of the YouTube engineering team, but behind the scenes it’s extremely complicated to support two different account systems.
  Having all users on the same account system not only simplifies matters, but more importantly, it makes it much easier to use Google technologies to keep the site running smoothly (over two billion views a day and counting), as well as introduce new functionality for the YouTube Community.
