Hi! am a new member and I have this problem: I have windows 7 installed and wanted to have a dual boot with XP since I have some applications which donot run on Win7. I followed the instructions but cannot get pass step3 and had a blue screen error. Before Installing WinXP these are what I did:

1. I created additonal partitions using EASEUS. The software did a good job for me since my laptop arrive with only singe partition.
2. The 2nd partition which I intend to install XP was set as a primary partition,
3. When I booted up from my DVD using the XP installer, I got a blue screen error!
4. What happen? Anybody who also experienced like what I did?

Use Disk Mgmt to delete new partition formatting, then create and format the partition using the booted XP CD before install.

XP did not detect the HDD

gregrocker,

Following your suggestion I removed all the new partitions I made back to the original setting when the laptop arrived within the Disk Management tool of Win 7. However,I created additional 2 partitions (one intended for XP and the other for Data) within Win7. (Prior to ViSTA and Win7, I am already familiar in using a dual boot).

When I booted this up for XP install (XP SP2) I still got a blue screen error. I tried changing to XP SP3 (TinyXP Xmast Edition 2008), it went thru but later the install process did not recognize any HDD in my laptop.

What I have is ACER (AS3810T).

I really wanted to have a dual boot since, at this time, I still want to have with me the statistical package I used in teaching students.

My experience with using DUAL BOOT is that it is easier done it using the older OS first than the other way around. I think this still holds through to WIN7 with XP.

Please help those who have done it Win7 first then dual boot with XP.

Use Method Two here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html

Try removing the formatting from the XP target partition you created in Win7, then create and format the partition using XP installer.

If this fails, please take a picture of your Blue Screen which captures the error numbers so we can sort it out.

You may also need to change the SATA controller setting in BIOS setup. See where it is set now.
