ok so i have seen on some sites (not torrent sites) but sites that say that the iso files is a direct link or the same iso copy you can download from microsoft. so is it the same version as the retail verision? i just want to know since i am helping a friend since he lost his windows 7 disk.

Yes, an .iso is an exact disk image, just watch where you download it from.

An ISO file is a disk image. The only way to know for sure that's right from Microsoft and not tampered with is to run a HASH check against the ISO and compare that to what Microsoft publishes.

If your friend does have a legit copy of the software and a valid COA...he should be able to call MS and get another disc for a nominal fee. That's what I would do..versus getting a potentially manipulated disc from the web.

Or buying it from a vendor. If you a VALID key and COA then you can buy just the disc. Most vendors will sell it for about $25 shipped.

I replaced a damaged XP CD from MS for only $10, but that was a couple of years ago, so it's probably higher now.
