GPU mad overheat

I recently got a new computer and finally got around to downloading SpeedFan. What I saw made me cringe and stutter. My GPU was running at an impressive !150! Celsius. I stopped my computer and cleaned the fan. I got it down to 112 right now, running it on open case (mind you that I monitored it at 239 at some point prior to the reboot). I kid you not, even SpeedFan was capped, showing me 199 on its icon)...GPU's fan is at 1750-1800 RPM and Core's at 1000. Room temp is 21-22 degrees. Is there anything I can do to help this? I dont feel like going to buy a new graphics cards for an already new computer...bypass? clock? RivaTuner(still getting acquainted..)? anything? plz help :/

HAHAHHHH, My brother has a similar motherboard with the same graphics, I think it's suppose to run at the temperature (his ran from 90-120C). I couldn't find a way to fix it, since it's onboard graphics which is with the southbridge. I installed an ATI Radeon HD 4650 and just completely ignored the temperature reading on it, so far, no problems have shown up(after 8months).

I touched the southbridge/igp heatsink, and it immediately gave me a burn, my friend that came over also touched it and burned himself as well lol.
Edit: Hey Doc, how do you get those perf. levels for your gpu?

Ouf, well you made my day man I was dropping unpleasant stuff in my pants thinking my Video Card was going to melt on me, remembering I had 45-60ish on my previous computers. Thanks again! much appreciated. I also have a win 7 crash problem, but I guess that will have to go to another section.

Eww. Your heatsink is uncoupled and/or your compound has dried to a crisp. Take the card out and take shots of the front and back of the card and we'll tell you how to take the sink off and fix it! From now on just get a Mac and you can just throw the whole thing in the trash and buy a new one for Steve

maby the temp sensor is off. even if its burning to the touch that can happen at 80-90 degrees if it was actually 199 i highly doubt the card would word it would be fried

Well according to XFX a 9800gt should start to artifact around 115c. 239c is 462.2 degrees F So I would think you'd get burned. I wouldn't just ignore it, I'd contact the manufacturer and at least find out the max temp and run a temp monitoring program, as well as possibly running more case fans and make sure I had good air flow.JMO. To much Heat= decreased life of the card. Fabe

I'd bring that HP back to the store immediately if I were U ....
Hp with AMD don't work....
I got one completely Fried ..."called Hp ...all they did was give me a new BIOS which makes the fan run in high- speed all the time ...GPU....FRied ...eventually ....."
Bring it back ....stay away from HP with Amd ...

Well, you can't really do anything about it since it's an integrated graphics which means it's linked with the southbridge, the most you can do is add in your own graphics card since hp choose to choose this motherboard that has a hot igp. And remember, the gtx 480 also ran at higher than normal temperatures....

I have a 3 year warranty on that PC, i'll just go and use coarse language and brutality to get them to fix this. Or end up in jail for a few days. thing is I looked at compatible Gforce video cards on the Win7 site and I didnt find mine so ill either add another one or threaten staff with their store pen to change my AMD if it's that bad
