Hi,

Ocassionaly on startup my screen will lose signal, normally around the time the login screen appears.

Pulling the cable out and in again from the gpu fixes it and the screen comes back on, with the login screen waiting for me (in other words the operating system fires up all fine).

The gpu fan bearings have been vibrating for over a year now just on startup then they go quiet, I'm aware they will go soon lol. It has also been powering a 32inch screen for about 3 years.

other than this my motherboard randomly hung once they other day at startup, but i just hard reset and it hasn't happened again since.

Is this more than likely the gpu on the way out or should i consider other possibilities?

HD Radeon 4870 1gb
Connect via Dvi-d to hdmi

Thanks!

From the sounds of it your GPU's had it's time in the spotlight and is now being carted off to the backstage dumpster. I'd guess it's pretty much past the door and into the alley right now.
