Granting Win7 File Rights to \\VirtualXP\XPMuser?

I'm in Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm trying to grant file rights to the XPMuser on my XP-Mode Virtual Machine.

How can I do this?

XPMuser is having file rights problems accessing the Windows7 drive.

When in XP-mode the machine name is VirtualXP-52160 (is this the same for everyone's XP-Mode?) Is there a bug in XP-Mode?

For instance, I want to grant \\VirtualXP-52160\XPMuser full rights to my Windows 7 PST file for Outlook.

Path to the file is: C:\users\username\documents\email\Outlook.pst

I can open it in Outlook 2003 from within XP-mode, but after a minute or less, or if I maximize or restore the XP-mode window, or it's screensaver turns on... I get these messages (See attached).

All in all, XP-mode seems pretty buggy to me. Or is Windows 7 just too paranoid with it's security settings?

OK, so I figured out a WORK AROUND, (which is NOT a solution). It would still be nice to see a REAL solution.

You see, the path to documents that did NOT work was:
"C:\Libraries\documents\documents\email\Outlook.PST"

When I moved the PST file to:
"C:\Libraries\documents\PUBLIC documents\email\Outlook.pst" the disconnects from inside XP-Mode went away.

NOW, (all you Windows 7 gurus out there) WHY IS THAT?
Why can't I put the PST file in the private documents directory?
I can map the "My Documents" settings in XP-Mode to the private directory just fine.
WHY NOT THE PST file? What makes Outlook any different?
And further, WHY does Outlook have the rights when first opened, and then looses them a little while later?
What's up with the inconsistency?

I'm having same issue as posted by Geekster2 in "Granting Win7 File
Rights to \\VirtualXP\XPMuser?". Trying to run Visual Studio 6.0 in
XP-Mode to compile project located on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 C: drive
which is mapped in XP-Mode as "C on <my-computer>". Installation of
XP-Mode did the mapping to the Win7 C drive automatically. When I try
to do a Build:Clean I get many errors of the form:
Error: Could not delete file "\\tsclient\C\Users\Public\Documents\Projects\ASL400_4Wiper\ASL200\bin\Debug\SystestSuperArm.exe" : Incorrect function.
Build : warning : could not create output directory '\\tsclient\C\Users\Public\Documents\Projects\ASL400_4Wiper\ASL200\bin\Debug'
Error: Could not delete file "\\tsclient\C\Users\Public\Documents\Projects\ASL400_4Wiper\ASL200\bin\Debug\SystestSuperArm.ilk" : Incorrect function.

If from within XP-Mode I copy the project from the "C on <mycomputer>
mapped drive to the XP-Mode C: drive the clean and build operations
work fine.
If I try to copy the project from XP-Mode C: drive to mapped Win7
drive in one case I got a "Incorrect Function" error during the copy
and in another case it copied the project fine. I tried moving
project to C:\Users\Public\Documents\ on Win7 drive as suggested in
Geekster2 post, but still got same errors. In XP-Mode I am logged
into XPMUser which has admin rights.

This is an old thread and you are not likely to get the help you need through it. Please start your own thread, and please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs in that thread by following these steps:

1. Click Start Menu
2. Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
3. Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
4. Expand Custom Views
5. Click Administrative Events
6. Right click Administrative Events
7. Save all Events in Custom View As...
8. Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
9. When asked, save the display information in English.
10. Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
11. Create a new folder by right clicking in a blank area within the folder Errors.evtx is saved in. You could also click New Folder at the top of the directory under the directory path box.
12. Name the new folder Errors.
13. Place Errors.evtx and the LocaleMetaData folder into the new Errors folder.
14. Right click the Errors folder -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
15. Upload the .zip file here.
