curious as to why gaming graphics card seem to be stuck at maximum 1GB of ram? why not add a bunch of slots so the end user could up the ram to say 16GB or 32 or more?

It's not really "stuck" at 1GB RAM. And newer cards are coming out with more VRAM now.

With Vista and 7, graphic cards can use the main system RAM as well if it needs to.

But I don't know why you'd need 16GB of VRAM on your graphic card. I don't know any game that uses up to 16GB of textures.

If they made a card with that much memory it would be very big and cost a lot. You would never use all that ram on a card.

I can't come up with any idea where one would ever need it. There not going to produce a card that would cost that much and fit in very few towers if nobody is going to buy it because they can't use it.

I would not be opposed to putting VRAM slots on a card with the option to expand VRAM.

I don't think its necessary though.
