Green Check marks appearing on desktop icons, what causes this?

Did you restart the computer after removing those apps? If not, do that and then look at the registry.

While those apps are uninstalled, you can run CCleaner's registry cleaning feature to see if it thinks it is okay to remove the remaining registry entries.

I rebooted my computer after removing the applications... I also downloaded ccleaner and let it clean everything it could. No luck with any of those steps. I found a program that can customize overlay icons and tried to do a reset on my overlay info but no luck. Finally, I also found some instructions on how to reset the overlay cache and rebuild it which I also did.

All of these attempts didn't resolve the problem. Finally I decided to try a system restore point from before the problem started. That seems to have corrected the problem although I really wish I knew what caused it to begin with....

Thanks for all the help!

Removing green ticks from desktop icons

I have no idea why this works but it does.
If you suddenly find that your desktop icons have all got a green box with a white tick on them heres's how i managed to clean them - simple and easy answer.
1. Place your cursor on a blank spot of the desktop
2. Right click and
3. select REFRESH.
That's it.
All back to normal..
Cheers
