Well, this isn't really Windows 7 related, but more hardware related. I got my brand new Dell Studio XPS 1640 yesterday as a replacement system for my malfunctioning XPS. And...apparently this one has an issue too...a worse issue. If I move the monitor the correct way, the screen colors urn greenish, everything gets blurred. It looks like it's flickering. Colors morph randomly. Blue's become whites, shapes grow out of propertion and change. So I think it could be a wire getting caught in the monitor hinge that I can't see. But also, when this happens, static electricity is emitted from the monitor like a TV. But goes away once I move it around and get it back to normal, and use my hand to take away the electricity (like a tv). What do you think of this?

EDIT: Screenshot:

Yep, sounds like a bad video connection. Since it is new, I would contact them & say you are NOT happy & want a replacement for this one.

I would get on the phone and talk to someone higher up the food chain and complain about the lack of quality control that Dell is lacking.
I think it's time to pack it up and send it back to Dell.
There may be an electrical short in the hinge just as you described.
Stay after them until you are 100% satisfied with your computer.

I talked to the manager of the technical support floor yesterday. No compensation, only replacement parts which a tech will have to come install some time this week. They said in the end if they have to, they will replace it again. But for god sakes, I have a company to run and I don't need this :-(

The tech manager gave you the wrong answer.
Call in Monday morning, when all the higher ups are there and keep going up the food chain till you get your problem resolved ASAP.
It's your money so go get it.
The problem today is customer service is not like it used to be. So remind them that Good News(customer service wise) travels slow and Bad New travels at the speed of light.
Tell them to pick one!

I agree I wouldn't stop calling till I got someone that can authorize sending me a new unit after all that's what you paid for. Better than that if they can send someone out to fix it they can send somone out with a replacement. I feel your pain hope they get you sorted out to your satifaction. Fabe

Dell Hell,

If you paid for it on a credit card, threaten to have your credit card company reverse the charges because of a defective product.

The only Dell's I have are one that friends gave me that don't want then any more, or that I found in thrift stores for $ 9.99 :geek:

Yes, you would have to return it; but you can get another computer. However, I doubt that Dell will let it come to that. The idea is to put pressure on them to make your computer operate properly or replace it.

Well, they have a tech coming out something this week I believe. But they had to delay it because of warranty transfer.

My screen is actually doing it RIGHT NOW. I can barely see what I'm writing:rolleyes:

Let's hope that your screen displays the fault when the technician is around. Looking at the images of your screen it would appear that this is a fault that can only be rectified by replacement. Don't let them fob you off with offering to do a repair. You state that this is brand new, so I would expect a new replacement.

Doing a repair on an obviously defective, and new, machine is unacceptable. The proper way to handle this would have been to immediately offer you a replacement, and have it shipped priority overnight. Dell has had enough bad press lately. You'd think they would want to keep their customers happy. By treating you this way, and thus prompting you to post your experience with them, they have possibly lost potential customers who might be reading this thread.

Brilliant marketing move on their part. I'm glad I don't own shares... or any of their equipment. lol.
