Now run a Startup Repair from the DVD, and if that doesn't help, run the commands posted above again.

how long does the repair take because i left it on for hours and it still hasnt finished

It will probably go on indefinitely, something isn't working right. I've seen Startup Repair finish after about an hour before, but usually it's within 5 minutes or less. Force reboot the computer and start on the next step.

This is what showed up after i marked the partition and tried to repair:

Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically

Problem event name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem signature 01: ...etc.

Have you tried the commands from the command prompt?
