gtx 970 SLI - barely any fps difference in-game

Hi,

I recently bought my second evga gtx 970, and turned on sli.
When i run heaven benchmark my fps is almost doubled.
But in-game there's barely any difference.

For example - sleeping dogs.
Disabling sli will give me 56.8 fps on average.
Enabling sli will give me 56.6 fps on average.
Then i check youtube, and people with the same cards run it at 130 fps average.

I've tried multiple drivers (364.51 / 364.62 and 365.10) but they make no difference.
Both the gpu's are around 72 degrees celcius while gaming.
CPU doesn't get above 45c.

Nvidia control panel: https://gyazo.com/067978ae91dc0062eff82ed5bf176dd6

I've already checked for virusses and updated the drivers.

specs:

amd fx-8350 (4.2ghz)
evga gtx 970 (x2)
killer 990fx mobo
8gb ddr3 ram.
win7 64 bit.

SLI has been on for years and yet is still too immature to improve game performance, so you should expect that.

Your motherboard could also be a slow down problem with FPS.

He isn't talking about what's in his PC specs. He's talking about what PC specs he stated in his post.

So:

3 PCIe 2.0 x16, 2 PCIe 2.0 x1

I think it's still a problem.

Yes, the specs in "my pc specs" are from 3 years ago. I apologize.

My power supply is a 750w be quiet 80+.

I've updated the "my system specs" section to my current hardware.

Hi,
There are many evga sc 970's
Here's just 1 showing a 500w or higher recommended psu
Now you have 2-970's :)

It doesn't work that way. The 500W recommendation includes the power consumption of all other components. This calculator recommended 389W for one 970 and 541W for two 970s in SLI. I only entered CPU, RAM, and GPU so those numbers are unreasonably low. But the difference of 152W is what matters most here.

Yeah, but 1 card is only 145 watts. 2 would be 290 watts.
If there wasn't enough power, then wouldn't my computer freeze?

Hi,
Never know until it's under a lot of stress or you start overclocking it further before you might run into power shortages.

Recommended spec's are mostly to cover their asses I'd imagine but the gpu does soak it up not counting everything else
Never heard of your psu (Be quiet 750w 80+) "gold" I guess ?

Silent 730W PSU PURE POWER L8 | 730W CM supply by be quiet!
Using alphaniner's calculator it says im using 661 watts under full load, and reccomends a 750w power supply.

Each card should have it's own cables.

Yes it does, but say that my current psu cannot give enough power to both cards - i should be able to see if that's the case if i connect 1 card to an entire different psu, right?

In general, using a second PSU to power certain components is a reasonable troubleshooting technique. But I'm not sure about using a different PSU to power each card in SLI. I doubt have no reason to assume it would cause harm, but it could potentially cause malfunction. If the second PSU has the juice and the connectors, I'd use it to power both GPUs.

Hi,
I'd say removing the second card completely and testing would be the better test
I've never sli'ed so ?

Or install each card solo and test each one separately see if they perform the same.
