gtx580 vs hd6970

hey,

im upgrading to i7, not really sparing expense on the mobo ram ect, 650watt psu or if needed a 750

from what i know, the 580 is top of the line, but for the price 6970 is killer

is it worth spending extra for a 580? a simple question, but im just looking for opinions.

580 All the way... I'll vote for NVIDIA though im not a NV Fanboy but i would definitely spend extra money if im about to head for the highend card. The way it's meant to played...

hd6970 is better

gtx580 is a little faster than hd6970
but you must pay 200 dollars more

so its not worth it

I personally would go with XFX since I have heard good things about their RMA service.
For Nvidia, I go with eVGA since they were great to me in the past.

I would also choose a mobo and video card that are compatible, just in case you want to run Crossfire or SLI (obviously you would do Crossfire since you chose the 6970).

Oh and while your sparing no expense why on earth limit yourself to 600-750 watts at this point if you don't up the PSU to 1000 or 1100 for likely $30-60 and leave your self some power headroom. Just saying if your building a kill system then first and foremost is case and PSU.

Well if expense is not a problem Mar 22nd sees the release of Nvidia's GTX 590 which at a guess will be the fastest single card (dual GPU) on the planet .

As to your PSU I'd be looking at bigger than 750 watt...PC's are becoming more power hungry as time goes by, graphix in particular. I would be considering at a minimum, a 1000 watt psu thats capable of supporting Multi GPU set ups. Or bigger even...PSU's tend to be swapped out of and into new systems so future proof yourself .

And be sure to get a motherboard thats supports SLI/Xfire dependent on what card set up you go for.
