Guess what? Your favorite websites are more likely to serve malware

Let’s see if you’re earmarked for having preconceived ideas. What websites would you select as ones most likely to serve malware? It seems logical to choose shady sites, you know, the ones selling illegal pharmaceuticals, fake Rolex watches, or p0rn sites.

If those were your choices as well, then we are both wrong.

It seems logical to target websites which everyone is using, rather than what a small minority of users are using. I guess you could say the same, with AV products, hackers and malware programmers are more likely to try and alter their code to avoid detection from more popular AV products, than does that are not used in the mass market.

I can attest that Google serves malware at times. Searching for images my Norton goes crazy and blocks many images I try to get. No they aren't porn, just generic pics for graphics work.

Return On Investment (ROI)

It seems logical to target websites which everyone is using, rather than what a small minority of users are using. I guess you could say the same, with AV products, hackers and malware programmers are more likely to try and alter their code to avoid detection from more popular AV products, than does that are not used in the mass market.

That tactic would generate the biggest ROI.

If you are using Firefox, try the "Context Search" add-on.
Simply highlight something on the page and then right click to search with any of your installed search engines.

You could also add the "Acronym Finder" search engine.

I know exactly what you are saying. Sometimes I spend more time looking up things that people use texting on a cell phone. English uses words. Their are enough acronyms using computers all ready we really don't need cell phone junk. Of course that only my opinion.
