When we train for something it has to be specific to the requirements needed. Now unless armies fight these days by seeing who can last longest in stomach blows, then what a pathetic approach at discipline this is.

I agree. That certainly isn't training - it is pure and simple bullying. Training involves teaching the recruits how to use equipment and how to defend themselves to the best of their abilities. Discipline is very important, and in order to gain it you need to have respect. I certainly would have no respect if someone treated me like that.
