Hey guys i attempted a dual boot osx on my Dell..

so i got the message on the black screen still waiting for root device....

i got this as an answer in another forum

@ whiteflame

you & souljah_3 got the similar "still waiting for root device" KP
and that's because you both have the mixed SATA-IDE storages which might confuse the osx to find its root directory

you can solve the KP by trying either one of these tricks:

- unplug all IDE device and try only using SATA for all storages

- boot with rd=disk#s# which is similar with Linux' root (hd#,#)
@ souljah_3: that's why I ask you to show me the pic of your partition sequence

- dump/restore the ISO to USB flash drive and boot your pc with it

and if you have an IDE DVD-ROM/RW,
then you could also temporarily connect it to USB port using the IDE to USB adapter like this:

is there a way around this..my HHD are sata but my dvd room is IDE..

I'd suggest going over to a hackintosh forum. I screwed around with this once and it required certain hardware, detailed firmware versions and often requires specifically hacked copies of the OSX software. While I got it up and running (eventually), I'd declare it one of the biggest wastes of time and money that I have spent in a long time. Overall, I used it for less than a week and gave up on it. I'm not an OSX fan and this didn't provide an easy path to become one. In the end, i ended up with a hardware build that would NOT have been what I would have went with had I strictly been building for Windows...which is now the only thing I am using the hardware with.
