Half Life remake Black Mesa now available for Free download

When people think of great first-person shooters they typically recall Doom and Unreal Tournament. Not me, though; I think back to the game that really started it for me, the one that did single-player right: Half-Life. Published by Valve Software in 1998, the original Half-Life was a journey through an apocalyptic experience at the Black Mesa labs in New Mexico as seen through the eyes of a brave but silent hero, Gordon Freeman. Now, 14 years later, a team of modders have released Black Mesa, a recreation of that seminal experience with Valve's Source engine. It looks marvelous.

Back in the late 90's we used to have HL on all the office PC's and every lunch time we would have a multiplayer lan match between all us in the Manchester office vs the guys down at our Birmingham and London offices.......Ah the good old days.

I may have to pull the laptop out and have a play of this new one (games dont like my main pc monitor setup)

I gotta be honest and come clean... those little pesky crawlers scared the crap out of me the first few times I encountered them.

Then the horror creatures did me in but... I have endured and loved playing this single player time and time again.!!!

hahaha those crawlers scared the shit out of me too inside the air vent when i was turning right and suddenly it screamed kaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and jumped on me and i started shooting and wasted 4 revolver bullets

I liked the original, I don't think I ever actually got to the end though. I've finished HL2 though. I may have a look at this, maybe I'll finish it this time.

if you did'nt got to the end and liked the original HL than you should really play it it's an amazing experience for me.

I'm just waiting for the Black Mesa download to finish now. I have Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 installed which also uses Steam so that wasn't a big deal for me. I downloaded and installed the SDK 2007 from Steam so thats a done deal. Its just a waiting game now.

Most of us in that thread had given up on ever seeing it released. In fact a lot of us called it vaporware. Anyway good that they finally released it... though I heard it's still incomplete

i think when they said Incomplete so it means there's no multiplayer yet no official info or achievements on the steam client etc. but i think the single player campaign is complete if im not wrong
