Handbrake Alternatives

What are some alternatives for Handbrake? I've used Handbrake on my Mac for years, but heard the windows version doesn't work as well. I want to be able to backup copies of my DVD and also have digital versions for my netbook.

have you tried handbrake yourself?

have a look at dvdshrink - it can rip and backup. it's pretty basic, but it's free.

as far as commercial software goes, dvdfab is very good and can convert to h264, but it costs unfortunately.
