Hangs during Install

i'm installing this onto a blank, new hdd. (seagate 320GB 7200.11)

after i boot off the of RC1 7100 dvd, it finds the hdd, then it asks to make the 200 mb partition for system files. it creates that fine, then i continue to install 7 onto the rest of the partition. it seems to extract fine, runs through the install once, restarts one time, then continues ( which seems normal )

then, the progress bar at the bottom seems to be about 70% of the way across and it's on the last step (completing installation) and i get the 3 little dots going across, but it's not constant. it seems to hang for a little bit, then it continues. while it's hung up, i can't move the mouse (cursor) and i've let it sit there for more than 2 hrs, hoping that it would get past that point and finish.

i have tired this with both x64 and x86 vers. of the OS. and while 2 of my 4 gb dimms are removed.

i'm guessing that there is a problem with installing the chipset drivers or something. and i also haven't tried removing my video card during this install. i could slap in an old nvidia 7300GT to see if it's my 9800GTX+ that is the issue, but i'm more worried about it being the chipset (nvidia i750)

i burnt the dvd's from my testbed at work, and i've never made a coaster. so i don't think it's the media, or the ISO

i wonder if it is the chipset, if there is a way to import different drivers for it during the installation? or if there is something else that i'm missing that is causing it to hang at that point.

my comp does seem to have issues if i install an OS with 4x 1GB dimms in the machine, so i was hoping that the removal of 2x 1GB would do the trick. but no.

i hope to hear something back soon, and let me know if there is any other info you might need to solve this issue.

thx

RC1 doesent come with alot of drivers. Please try to get ahold of BETA (7201+) or even better, 7228. Many system crashes were fixed after the release of 7100, which im pretty sure is your issue here.

Give a newer build a shot, and let us know how it goes.

cool! there is hope!

yea, i have 7 x64 installed on my laptop (a HP DV2000 that i repaired from work) and that installed fine and runs great. but yea, i DO like 7, i just thought that it didn't like my motherboard and stuff on my desktop

i'll give that a shot tho. and do you think i should leave all 4 gigs of ram installed or should i still take out 2?

I had the same problem.
I did three things. The first was, I think, the fix.
In system bios - deactivate the legacy floppy drive.
I removed all overclocking, all system defaults.
Removed 4 gigs of ram - 4 gigs remaining.
After doing the above Windows 7 7229 installed in about 25 minutes, MOL.

edit; I went back and tested - it was indeed the floppy drive.
