When finishing up our taxes, wifey noted that Google was giving her bum search results. Her version of Norton had expired so before I gave the IRS my credit card info I downloaded AVG 2012, updated its virus file and scanned her system. AVG found some issues and I had it automatically fix them. I then proceded to send up my taxes via TurboTax, all appeared to go well. Two days later my son had a friend over and they 'borrowed' the mouse from that system. When we re-attached the mouse the system booted up as expected to the password screen and shortly after logging in, 30secs to a minute, the BSOD appeared. Stop code 0x0000001E and the display became 'snowy' before the system went back to reboot and the sequence went over and over till I turned it off. I tried booting into 'safe mode' with no luck and even tried several attempts at using 'system recovery' to run check disk /f and sfc /scannow all without joy.

This is a Gateway system, 8Gb of memory, windows 7 home premium version about 2-yrs old.

Which way do I go here to resolve this problem?? Thanks.

Hello afly and welcome to Seven Forums!

See if you can restore: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html

Never a good idea to have two antiviruses installed at once, even if one is disabled. And the best way to ensure nothing goes wrong is to uninstall the previous antivirus with its manufacturer's uninstaller tool (or try Revo Uninstaller Free). Otherwise files get left behind if you use windows uninstaller.

If sys restore doesn't work, or doesn't work well, try an sfc scan and/or repair install

DustSailor; I tried System Restore using method 2 System Recovery Option. Within System Restore I received error codes 0x800700b7 and 0x8000ffff (tried it twice) but when I restarted in Safe Mode a popup window stated the system was restored to an earlier date but bottom line was no joy (bsod). I then tried the SFC /scannow route from the command window in system restore and received the message 'There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run SFC again' tried that but received same message sequence. I do not have a repair CD.

Wanchoo; I don't know if happili is part of the problem or not. Just thought that by giving recent history before the problem someone may have an AH HA ! moment and be able to help me better.

Jacee; I think I was at that page before I came here. Looks like I need some educating to be able to figure that one out. i.e. How do I determine which module runs at a given address range? My stop code looks like 0x0000001E (0xffffffffc0000006, 0xfffffa80090b0b8c, 0x0000000000000000, 0x000000007efa2000) The blue screen also refers to trying a different video card which I may well do as I don't believe the 'snow' is normal

Thank you all for responding.
