I never wanted to leave but Microsoft and other Vendors plotted your demise.
I tried to stay with you, but I have been overwhelmed since the STUPID Ranson Attack last year in about April.
Much thanks to the Windows-7 Forum, its Members AND the author of SIMPLIX for their help and support.
I just have not been able to recover.
I'll be stopping making Posts and focus on either closing or deleting any remaining after today.

I now have a somewhat stable Windows-10 install, with a wonderful Windows-7 artifact, StartisBack.

Sorry to see you give up on Windows 7 Mike. You should have been to keep Windows 7 if you did a clean install.

I have computers with Windows XP, 7, 10 and 11. Each one is a challenge to keep working.

Every day I check the following forums each day: Windows XP Forums, SevenForums, TenForums, ElevenForum, TechSupportGuy, OverClockers. I don't post much on the XP Forums or this forum much anymore because the activity is so low on each one.

1. Do a clean install of Windows 7.
2. Run the most current Simplix UpdatePack7R2 to bring Windows 7 up to date.
3. Install the necessary device drivers.
4. Personalize and configure Windows 7 to your liking.
5. Install any needed third party apps.
Done!

I have done it many times and can usually complete the entire job in 5 - 6 hours.
Until Windows 7 goes completely extinct (after January 2026?), I will keep using it.

Not likely, but if you're worried, just keep W7 offline, where it will be safe from their prying fingers.

I took my new (refurbed / used PC) into the Greek Squad to handle several upgrades that were beyond me.

Good news, I received my PC back this morning.
Bad news, it took 11 days and many trips to the Store and hours of endless "wait time to include: Pakistan, India, Philippians and Texas).I'm at home now and dismayed. I picked up the PC but as usual, the Tech who worked on it was not available to talk with me.
Must be my liberal use of deodorant.

I'm trying to avoid another four days of Que time by asking your feedback regarding the Tech's notes.
Here is what he said,
"Clone from the USB External Drive appeared to work. The O/S (W10) would not load. DID AN ON-TOP INSTALL",
which retains all the user data but removes the programs". Computer now boots and works as intended.

MisterEd and Flavallee, from your Replies to this Post, could he be saying he did a "clean install", as you indicated above?

Waiting and additional four days to clarify what he meant is not in my schedule. Again, I'm 80 and my Alarm is about to ring.

Sounds like he meant a repair install.

If you haven't seen it yet, I've replied to your thread about Simplix UpdatePack7R2, and I've posted the URL link where you can download and obtain the 814 MB-size version for December 2024.

I'm not going to ask how much money you've spent on the Best Buy "Geek Squad" and on those overseas calls, but it sounds like you've thrown away a lot of it needlessly.

Yes, you are correct - Best Buy Elsewhere got me really good $$$!

I have just been helpless since the original Hack back in about April of this year.

NOTHING has worked software wise and now I believe my PC is bricked.

All that it will do is power on and race the fans at high speed.

No Post Codes, nothing.

Any ideas or do you think it's a Brick?

What caused the Bricking appears to be USB Safely Remove Software.

I responded to remove a Composit USB Device and that immediately caused the issue.

I have cobbled together this PC to search for answers or help.

I extensively posted on the Ten Forum as that was where I thought I had gotten my main PC to.

ANY feedback, positive or negative, will be appreciated.

At this point some tinkering may be needed. If you had a bunch of parts lying around, as geeks do, you could swap out the PSU to see if that helps. Reset the bios. Replace the CPU battery. Part of me want s to say that Best buy would have ruled all that out, but who knows? They're primarily interested in making $ off you.

I hate to direct people to another forum to solve their problem, but in this case, Tom's Hardware could be very helpful. Your question will be read by many thousands of smart people, and responses come quickly. If you've never heard of them, here's the link:
