Hard disk replacement fixed keystroke delay problem

I experienced serious keyboard lag when typing in Excel, Word and even using Chrome. I cloned my C-drive to an old hard disk and the problem disappeared completely when using the cloned disk. Running Crystaldisk on both hard disk showed that the original had serious problems. How a bad hard disk can delay keystrokes I still cannot comprehend.
