Hard Drive Copy

I copied my system disk to an external disk. When I rebooted I think the mbr was screwed. The bios would boot and when It came to Win it would just set there. I finally unplugged all drives but the system disk and it came back. Then I put everything back and it was straightened out. I used Ghost to do the copy. I am ready to copy again. (the copy is for a spare)
Any hints on what happened?

If you have a problem with booting to a drive you can generally fix it by restarting installation of W7, and when you get to repair click on that, and it wil fistly scan you system, and repair any boot up problems. When I installed a couple of copies of W7 it placed all my OS' s on the one boot menu, 4 in all. Check below if this is irrelevant it maybe of help.

If you create a system image of the entire drive in backup it will work - type backup in search - select create a system image, and it will create an exact image of the drive.

Windows Backup provides you with the ability to create a system image, which is an exact image of a drive. A system image includes Windows and your system settings, programs, and files. You can use a system image to restore the contents of your computer if your hard drive or computer ever stops working. When you restore your computer from a system image, it is a complete restoration; you can't choose individual items to restore, and all of your current programs, system settings, and files are replaced. Although this type of backup includes your personal files, we recommend that you back up your files regularly using Windows Backup so that you can restore individual files and folders as needed. When you set up scheduled file backup, you can choose whether you want to include a system image. This system image only includes the drives required for Windows to run. You can manually create a system image if you want to include additional data drives.

I use Acronis True Image to image copy my C: to my D: drive. Much better than Ghost.

Acronis

I like Acronis. I have a legit copy. But every time I have loaded it (numerous) it has been funky. Cursor comes and goes, can't mount vdisk, etc. Sooo I bought a copy of ghost. My copy of Acronis was TI2009 home. I see they have 2010 out now. I have thought about an upgrade but haven't done it yet. I tried the 2010 beta version and still had the same bugs.

You need to upgrade: Complete hard disk recovery solution, backup, drive copy, clone and image computer software works perfect in Win 7.
