hard drive dead?

I recently dropped my laptop and windows wouldn't boot anymore, instead grub4dos booted and none of the options did anything. I put in my repair disk and tried chkdsk c: /f in command prompt, that ran for a few days and it ended up restarting my computer. Grub4dos didn't boot but windows was stuck in a black screen with the text windows is loading files on screen and had a bar that's fully loaded below it. It's been stuck there for hours. I also tried using bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot but that did nothing. Windows startup repair gave errors too. Is there anything I can do to recover my hard drive? I need the data on it. I'm also running boot camp on a macbook pro.

any suggestions?

If you can boot and both of your threads are for one computer lets do the BSOD first

Would be much easier if we had all the info in one thread so we can have an accurate picture.

So you cant boot from the win 7 dvd? does it get as far as the BIOS screen? Are there any unusual beeps?

Does it boot into safe mode? It could be purley coincidental.

A hard drive can withstand forces up to 100G lol, but when on its a different matter.

I'm going to be blunt but anybody that doesn't back up their stuff is a bit silly your asking for trouble.

While I can't think of any suggestions just yet, I will suggest in buying a 2.5" hard drive caddy, sticking your hard drive in it and then transfering all the essential stuff from it before anything is suggested involving loss of data.

What type of Hard drive do you have installed? If we know what make and model #s and other pertinent information we may be able to find diagnostic software from the hard drive manufacturer which can tell you if your hard drive is fritzed. Providing we can get it to boot.
