So I made the mistake of upgrading my OS and installing an extra hard drive at the same time. Now I like the new windows, went from XP MCE 2005 to Windows 7 so I'm not complaining about that. Its just now I'm not sure if its the new OS or the new HD thats the problem.

The hard drive is a new Hitachi Deskstar 2TB 7k drive and it says windows 7 compatible. It will just dissapear from the system. I dont see any system events or errors or anything like that. I guess the only real consistancey is that its after its been asleep for a few hours.

If it only goes to sleep for a little while it seems to always be there when it wakes up. If I reboot the drive comes back and I can use it.

The system is like 4 almost 5 years old but I'm assuming that has nothing to do with it. Windows runs perfectly and is faster than when the system had XP. Did I just get a bunk drive or is it somehow related to windows? I guess it could it even be my powersupply...

Unfortunately they didn't release the hotfix for 64bit systems. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction tho. It had something to do with the default SATA driver.

I installed the intel matrix storage manager driver last night and when I woke the computer up this morning the extra drive was still there so it looks like it fixed the problem.

The link below is what I installed if anyone else is having the same problem.
