I am trying to install Windows 7. But everytime I get to the screen where I have to choose the hard drive to install on, the computer tells me, "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation." I have been getting frustrated and cannot seem to be able to find the correct drivers for this.

Thanks Arc, I have tried everything that you said to try on your post. Nothing seems to be working. Any more ideas?

Hi Maksim,

Just to confirm : you aren't trying to install to a RAID array are you? That message you describe is typical of installations to a RAID array, although I don't think exclusively so.

What make of disk is it? IDE/SATA/SCSI?

Regards,
Golden

Another thing Arc, is that the hard drive shows up when I am booting and it will show up when I boot into Windows XP. Also, when it does show up it says that it is a scsi drive.

You need to give us some relevant details before we can try to help. What chipset is your system? Is it a SCSI hard drive, or is it just being detected (labeled) as SCSI? What model hard drive is it (if you don't know the previous question)? You mention booting to Windows XP. Is that currently installed on the drive in question? Is it the Dell you mention in your system specs (you should fill them out if it is).

Sorry DeaconFrost, I am not sure of the chipset, It is being detected as a scsi drive because it says that the drive has scsi properties. I have two hard drives installed one of them a 250 gig scsi drive and the other is a 80 gig sata drive. Yes it is the dell fore mentioned.

Fill in your system specs, and/or post the Dell model number. Does the Dell have an onboard SCSI card (that would be quite an old computer), or did you add in an old SCSI card? Are you trying to install Windows 7 to the 80 GB drive, or the 250 GB?

I am sorry but I cannot fill in everything about my computer for security reasons. It is an older AlienWare Laptop. I am not sure about the scsi card. I am trying to install windows 7 to the 250 gig hard drive.

Security reasons? You don't put your social security number in there...you put the specs of your system. That has nothing to do with the security.

Now, as it seems from your second thread, you don't actually have a SCSI drive. Going back to some unanswered questions, are you trying to install Windows 7 to your 80 GB drive or the 250 GB?

The system is an Alienware Laptop. I am not sure if the dell has an scsi card or not. As far as I know it does not. I am trying to upgrade and go to a bigger hard disk and with a clean install of windows 7.

The specs would still be helpful (and aren't a security risk). Anyway, go into your BIOS and see how your drive controllers are configured. Most likely, you have an Intel chipset (but without specs, I'm only guessing). That means you'll have three possible settings for the controllers...AHCI, IDE, or RAID. I'm wondering if you have it set to RAID, but you'll have to go in and check.

I went into the BIOS and the drive controllers are configured as ATA. I am not sure of the chipset, how do I find out what my chipset is?

That's usually something you just know from purchasing the laptop, but it should be listed in Device Manager, under System Devices. Several of the entries would say something like Intel G33/G35 Chipset Express with other info after them.

If both drive controllers are listed as using ATA, you shouldn't need any other software or drivers to install. What if you pulled the 80 GB drive and tried to install with just the 250 GB present?

Sorry guys, I am new at the place I am working. I am not sure of the specs. All I know is that it is an Alienware Laptop, it has a 250 gig hard drive along with another 250 gig hard drive. Does anyone know what kind of motherboard would be in an alienware laptop? I'd rather not take it apart, so I was wondering if anyone on this forum would know.

If you don't want to give out information because it is a company-owned system, then you should have IT support staff to have set up your computer, and shouldn't be messing/trying to do so yourself.

Since the drive info has changed several times over, post a screen shot of your Disk Management screen, and we'll go from there.
