Hard drive filled overnight trying to upgrade to Windows 10

My motherboard recently died. I bought all new parts, CPU, video card, motherboard and ram. I had a friend who works on computers install it. I had upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 back when it was free. He put 7 back on it because he didn't have a copy of 10. I got it home and began rebuilding it on the software end. I started with 130GB free space.

I installed the following:
- Photoshop elements 15
- Movie Studio Platinum 12
- Office XP
- Avast Antivirus
- Steam
- Winrar

and attempted to use the windows Media Creation Tool to upgrade back to 10.

The download failed at 36% "something went wrong, we don't know what happened" the error message read.

I tried again and left it overnight because my internet is poor. I woke up to a blue screen saying Windows 7 will no longer be getting updates to protect my PC, I could only assume the update failed again.

Now my hard drive has 25GB free space. That does NOT add up.

I have no idea how to rectify this. Ideally I'd like to have Windows 10 running with at least 100GB left.

Anyone's help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi

This machine has a non-genuine install and will never automatically update to W10, you will also shortly be recieving the same message for W7.

There's a >>user installed<< activation exploit, and MS has also picked this up
Keeps trying and failing hence the disk filling.
An Acer SLIC table with an HP product key on a custom built computer
You couldn't ask for a more blatent counterfiet install if you tried.

your original W7 product key should have been either System builder or Retail, certainly NOT the OEM key currently in use.
If you have the afore mentioned key you can use that with, either the change product key option and removing the exploit or a clean MCT install
