Hard drive keeps dropping out

A couple days ago I removed one of my hard drives and reinstalled windows 7 to a new SSD. I have a second hard drive that stores all my documents, music, videos etc. Since then the second hard drive will disappear from windows completely. I can not see it in the computer folder or in device manager. Then if I restart the computer it will be back for a couple of hours...

Any ideas on what this could be??

Welcome to SevenForums!

A couple of things to check :

1. Is the SATA cable securely plugged into the MOBO and drive? Could it be a loose connection?
2. Can you install and run CrystalDiskInfo on the problem hard drive, and paste a maximised image of it here for us to look at?

Others may have other suggestions too.

You may also wish to check your Power Plan Settings to make sure that Windows isn't accidentally set to disable the drive after a certain amount of time.

Thanks for the quick responses, I went for the easiest thing to check first and found that my hard drive was set to turn off after 20 minutes. I didn't know this was even possible but I think this could be it. Thanks again and I will be posting again soon if this wasn't the problem!!
